This album, originally released in 2010, was the first to include the core musicians who define This Is The Kit to this day: leader Kate Stables, of course, but also drummer Jamie Whitby Coles and multi-instrumentalist Rozi Plain. Therefore it was the first LP to sketch out the band’s potential—even if it was the next album, 2015’s Bashed Out, that would be their breakout. Guy Garvey (Elbow singer, BBC DJ) was quoted saying Wriggle should have been nominated for the Mercury Prize.

We reissued it in 2013, after a second label in a row had released it…then gone out of business. Respects paid to the album’s previous homes from 2010 to 2012—Need No Water, Dreamboat, and the still-extant Disco-Ordination. The music business is hard and our reissue benefitted from their valiant efforts.

We slowly began introducing TITK to our world in 2012, firming up the band’s identity, and helping build teams that would work on their behalf (booking agents, PR folk, and the like). Our reissue was largely unchanged—other than a bonus track (previously released single “Treehouse”) and a new package design by Scott Devendorf. (His role in the overall visual identity of Brassland cannot be understated. Again, respect.)

The rest of Scott’s bandmates in The National quickly warmed to TITK’s music. By year end 2013, they were invited to open The National’s most significant tour to date across the United Kingdom and Europe, hitting the continent’s biggest cities. We later brokered invitations for TITK to do opening slots with Alexi Murdoch, Iron & Wine, and Jose Gonzalez. Cozy neo-folk was in full effect at the time!

But WOtR is more than just folk. Ornately patterned acoustic guitar/banjo plink and pluck over eclectic arrangements for clarinet, reed organ, sax. It’s jazzy, hypnotic, psychedelic, low-key yet impressive.
